OH MAH GUH!!! We're really here! We've been in the new spa for 2 weeks now and it's heaven. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel to all of you, my clients, my co-workers, my friends, family and contractors. And Eric! The amazing Eric Burns, property manager/general contractor extraordinaire. And Angela! The simply divine Angela of Angela Nicole Interiors! And my mom! She's just the best. Love her so much. What's that? The music is playing me off? But I have so many more people to thank...

But seriously folks, when I recover from a truly astounding case of exhaustion and brain fry, I'm going to post some pictures and tell you all the hair raising story about almost having had to change our name at the last minute and our mad dash to close Wet Paint 1 and set up Wet Paint 2 in the space of a few hours for inspection and re-opening the next day! oof!

I'll also let y'all know when the Grand Opening Partay will be. It's coming up soon.

In the mean time, come by, check out the beauteousness and make an appointment for some waxing. Yeah. We do that now. More services will be phased in soon.

Just Breathe...

Well... it was bound to happen... I had a meltdown today. We're sooooo close to opening, and all the little things that are slowing down completion piled up on top of my head and made me anxious/sad/freaked out. But I'm OK now, thanks to a pep talk from "the coach", a.k.a. my awesome mom. Love you!

Trust me when I tell you that the new spa is worth the wait. The design by Angela Nicole Interiors is gorgeous! She has brought my vision to life in a way I could never have done on my own. The gentlemen who are creating the space are not mere laborers, but craftsmen. Their attention to detail is worth the time they've taken. All that's left now is the waiting game. You know how it is... a vendor tells you something's in stock when it isn't; they tell you an item has shipped, when it hasn't; the usual confusion, but we're getting down to the last little bit. A few more deliveries, a few inspections and before you know it, opening day will be here.

I know how anxiously you're all awaiting the grand opening, and I can't tell you how proud that makes me. You, our clients and friends, have inspired me to take this next big step and it's because of you that we'll succeed. Thank you for your patience AND your eagerness. I know you're all going to love it as much as we do.

Is Gel Polish Bad For Your Nails?

Gel polish is not bad for your nails when applied, cared for and removed properly.
Here are a few tips:

1. Make sure your nail techs are properly educated in the application and removal of gel polish.

2. Moisturize your cuticles, nails and undersides of nails every day with a natural oil.

3. DO NOT peel gel polish off nails.

a. Gel polish bonds with the keratin of the nail plate, unlike regular polish, which dries on the nail. This bond is why gel polish lasts so long and lends strength to your nails.

b. If you peel it off, you'll remove several layers of your natural nail too.

4. Have your professional nail tech remove your gel polish at least once. That way, if you want to do it on your own, you’ll know how to do it correctly.

Do You Have Hair? Do You Get It Done? Because We Can Do That...

Greetings fair readers! I wanted to let you know that we've added hair services to our menu!

The lovely and talented Leang is a fully licensed cosmetologist and will be doing nails, skincare/waxing and hair at our new location. She's the woman responsible for my natural blonde, so you know she's good.

Also, sadly, the construction has fallen behind schedule. I'd like to be jaded and cool and say I'm not surprised, but I am. I got totally carried away by excitement and forgot that projects don't always finish on schedule.

In the mean time my dears, let us dream of the coming spring's beauty and lovely weather.

Here's to you, wishing you snow drops and crocuses.

WALLS!

Ok, so it's been awhile since I wrote, but guess what? We've got walls! Genuine, real-deal, can't see through them walls! And, as of 2 days ago, they even have plaster on them! Plaster!!!

Ok, enough with the exclamation points...

I'll be meeting with our interior designer this evening to discuss the paint scheme. Don't panic. I'm not changing the colors, just the way they're going on the walls. Now that we have such a large space I think they might be a bit overwhelming so I've got some ideas to explore.

I spent so much time feeling like this was never going to happen that suddenly it's here and I have a ton to do! (That was the last exclamation point. I promise.) I've got to pick out cupboards and counter tops and fittings for the aesthetics room and lighting and who knows what-all. It's all terribly exciting and anxiety provoking and exciting and exciting. I can't wait! (Ok, I lied about that other exclamation point being the last one. My bad.)

Man! Construction takes forEVER! I haven't posted lately because there just hasn't been anything interesting to report. Now, however, I'm happy to say that the HVAC system has been installed, the plumbing is in place for our new washer/dryer and the electricians are there today doing electrical things.

Work had finally begun in earnest. The demo is done and just this morning I saw two guys unloading something from a truck and carrying it in to the new space.

They're so long, and there are only two of them so I don't think they're floor boards, but what do I know? Anyone have any ideas?

Mum and I really wanted to get pictures of each other swinging hammers during the demolition, but for some odd reason, the workmen didn't think that would be a good idea. Could it be because I'm a nail technician and she's a grant writer? Not exactly hammer swingin' professions. We posed for some shots anyway, cuz we think we're cute. You do too, right?

Oh, and the sound proofing for the walls of the esthetics room has arrived, so your whale music facials won't be interrupted by loud laughter and other foolishness we always seem to be getting up to.

So I haven't really got any news to report, but I was over there earlier today with my mum and the property manager and I got such a cute picture of the two of them, that I just had to post it! Spa Construction Blog: A Tale of Patience

Once upon a time there was a girl with a dream. OK, she was actually a woman and the once upon a time was actually right now, but you know what I'm saying. Anyhoo...

Seven years ago, I became a nail tech and discovered that I really loved it. I loved it so much that five and a half years ago, with the help of my mum, I opened my own nail spa. Thanks to my fabulous clients and crew, we prospered over the years and the time came to grow. That's when the waiting game began.

We entered in to protracted negotiations with our landlord about space. It took MONTHS to find common ground, but in the end we did. We began tell all of you about our plans; that we'd be opening a full spa, with waxing and facials, body wraps and professional makeup application and lessons. We expected to be in our new space and open by September 2010. Well, it's the first of December today and, as you know, we're not in our new space. *heavysigh*

Well... At long last, construction on the new space has begun!!!! YAY!!!!! In this blog, I'll be posting updates and photos of progress. I won't give an estimated completion date, because I've learned that lesson the hard way, but I'll certainly let you know, as soon as we know.
